About Alto Hartley Inc
Al Reynolds and Tony Greco, refrigerator mechanics, were asked in the 1950s to begin selling new refrigerators. Deciding to take on more of a challenge, they began a restaurant-equipment business, which they named Alto. They became known for providing turn-key solutions and built many of Washington, D.C.Â’s premier restaurants of the day.
In the 1960s, Tony bought the business from Al, and Jack Hartley joined AltoÂ’s sales team. But by the early 1970s, the business had changed in unexpected ways, making Tony more of a restaurateur. So he decided to close Alto.
Jack moved to Florida and opened his own restaurant-equipment business, taking advantage of the growth spurred by the opening of Disney World. With a growing business, Jack moved back to the Washington, D.C. area. He asked Tony whether he could revive the Alto name, recognizing its value and honoring its history.
Adding his own name and reputation to the business, Jack founded Alto-Hartley in 1982. The business thrived and expanded, in terms of services and products provided, clients served, and reach. Alto-Hartley soon was back at the forefront of the D.C. restaurant scene, building and equipping many new restaurants each year. As more project managers joined the team, new opportunities opened to work with the many corporate, health care, government, and hospitality businesses as well as educational institutions in the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area and beyond.
The companyÂ’s current president, Peter Huebner, joined Alto-Hartley in 1993 as a project manager.
Alto-Hartley’s product and service lines have evolved and been honed over time. The latest addition is design services. Now the Alto-Hartley team can take clients through the entire project life cycle – from the drawing board to reality.
