In the mid1960Â’s, Cousins Francesco Bono and Angelo Bresciani traveled to the United States from Argentina. They embarked on a plan to learn English, start a business and live the American dream. They never could have dreamed all this was about to happen. In 1970 after working at various bakeries in BostonÂ’s North End, they secured a storefront and started their first bakery in Arlington, MA specializing in wonderful coffees and pastries for the local population of Spy Ponders. Their first bakery was such a success they soon opened their second bakery, Garden Court Bakery, in Somerville, MA just down the road. The local community fell in love with the service and the product quality. While in their two small storefront bakeries, they began making cannoli shells and fillings to supply only their two stores. When other bakery owners found out about Francesco and Angelo making these treats, they quickly asked the two cousins to make the shells for them in bulk. Francesco and Angelo happily agreed and began producing larger quantities. The unexpected demand for their cannoli shells was so tremendous, they were propelled into purchasing a vacant building in Somerville, MA for manufacturing space only for Cannoli. And Golden Cannoli was born. Today Golden Cannoli has received national recognition for their handmade cannoli and fillings by some of the largest distributors and customers in the US. With this growth and development, Golden Cannoli 2nd generation owners, Valerie, Maria, Eric and Edwin purchased a 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility. From 41 team members, to now over 80 in 2018, Golden Cannoli continues to thrive. This second-generation family is known for their commitment to innovation, in 2015 they launched a pre-packaged chip, The Original Cannoli Chip, designed to exist outside of a typical bakery setting. Now households nationwide can fall in love with this popular Italian dessert. The Original Cannoli Chip is a traditional Italian cannoli shell, rolled flat, and cut into bite size triangles (perfect for dipping.) They launched with three delicious flavors, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar and cookies & cream. This summer a 4th flavor launched, bright and citrusy, theyÂ’re sure Lemon Cannoli Chips will be a hit. The Original Cannoli Chip comes in 5.1oz resealable gusseted bags, and in 2oz single serving bags. Golden Cannoli is committed not just to innovation, but to excellence. They made it a goal to achieve the highest levels of safety and quality training they could. This spring that goal came to fruition with their SQF III certification. This certification is the only GFSI recognized standard that incorporates a food quality component in addition to standards for food and employee safety. It is recognized around the world, level III is the highest standard that can be met.
